Meet Nilüfer Yanya — a British singer, songwriter, and all-around genre-blender we’ve had on repeat lately.

Born to two visual artists, Nilüfer grew up in Chelsea, London, with Irish, Barbadian, and Turkish roots. Her home was filled with classical and Turkish music, but it was rock that really grabbed her — she picked up the guitar at 12 and never looked back.

She studied classical piano in school, but her love for the electric guitar took over (shoutout to her teacher, Dave Okumu of The Invisible). Her early faves? The Pixies and The Cure. Over time, her sound evolved into something more soulful — think Jeff Buckley meets Nina Simone.

We’ve been especially loving her track “Like I Say (I runaway)” — it’s been our current jam in the studio.
